Sr. Network Engineer
10+ years of experience preferred.CCNP or CCIE certification HUGE plus!Must be comfortable presenting and translating technical solutions to 'non-technical' people. RESPONSIBILITIES• Works with customers to develop requirements for network services and then to design cost-effective, secure, and reliable solutions to meet those requirements.• Prepares and maintains detailed network documentation both for networking team and end users.• Configures and manages central network components (including network distribution and core, firewalls and VPN gateways, wireless controllers) to provide service to end users and departments.• May serve as team leader for more junior-level analysts.• Tier 3 resource for various network performance and connectivity issues; assists the Network Operation Center (NOC) analysts when called upon.• Works with SOC to establish policies and procedures for managing the network.• Stays current with new technologies, with a focus on routing, switching, wireless and security technology.• Configures and manages security perimeter devices (firewalls and VPN gateways) to provide service to end users and departments. SKILLS• Must possess an aptitude for patience, professionalism, tactfulness, and empathy; must have the ability to assess the specific needs of the customer and be able to communicate these appropriately; must be able to work with high-end stakeholders and negotiate the political landscapes that may exist in the enterprise; must possess the ability to clearly communicate with clients and team members verbally and in writing.• Ability to manage projects that require directing the work of others and exercise some latitude on actions or decisions.• Ability to organize and follow complex and/or detailed technical procedures.• Extensive knowledge in a technical specialty area; detailed understanding of technical issues to design architecture for stable technologies.• Ability to investigate, research, and put into place new technologies in specialty or related area to improve performance; ability to develop solutions that impact the university infrastructure.• Advanced knowledge of technology resources and specialty areas to serve as resource for analysts.• Ability to consult with senior-level decision makers, on an on-going basis, to develop long-range strategic alternatives; ability to consult with clients, high-level technicians, analysts, and peers to resolve problems.• Bachelor / CCNP • Bachelor's degree in electronics, telecommunications, engineering, or a closely related field plus 4 years of experience in network design, analysis, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
