Role / Responsibilities
The Regulatory Reporting group works to grow and sustain a culture of compliance across FirstEnergy’s five-state service territory encompassing Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The team interacts with the FirstEnergy electric distribution companies by implementing an infrastructure that monitors compliance, analyzes gaps between state rules and existing processes, provides risk assessments, regulatory advice, and timely reporting. This position reports to the Manager, Regulatory Reporting.
Work with data and information related to electric utility operations such as customer service, external relations, inspection and maintenance, meter reading, outage restoration, staffing, system reliability, and vegetation management.
Become familiar with applicable electric utility regulations maintained by the various state public utility commissions.
Prepare, write, and validate required regulatory reports, data requests, or other required regulatory requests.
Provide support for required state regulatory activity for FirstEnergy Utilities.
Conduct research, analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings.
Communicate proficiently, both verbal and written, to internal FirstEnergy departments and external regulatory entities, such as the state public utility commissions.
Develop alternatives, and recommendations to improve work processes and reporting.
Identify compliance concerns or gaps for resolution and lessons learned for continuous improvement opportunities.
Work in cross-functional teams; build relationships and credibility across the organization.
Assist and advise staff and management and act as liaison with other departments as required.
Provide assistance during emergencies and storm related activities, including communicating to regulatory entities.
Qualifications
Demonstrate and direct a solid commitment to all aspects of safety as a core value, according to company policies and procedures.
Minimum bachelor’s degree in Compliance, Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline required.
Minimum 4 years professional work experience required.
Proficient analytical and quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to proactively identify challenges or roadblocks.
Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, technical writing, note taking and organization,
Effective at building relationships and credibility, providing staff support to management and higher levels of professionals, and interpersonal skills to gain cooperation with internal and external customers as needed.
Demonstrate problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Power BI, and Word.
Working knowledge of querying tools (i.e., TOAD Data point) is a plus.
Ability to work flexible hours during storms or large outages, which could include evening and weekend hours.
Qualifications at the Compliance Advisor II level must include all above plus:
Minimum 8 years professional work experience required.
